Spring is here! Do you need some fresh air? Las Colinas is home to 190 acres of parks and greenbelts, making it the perfect place to shake off cabin fever. All of the parks in Las Colinas are maintained by the Las Colinas Association. Go ahead and grab your spouse, kids or fur baby and enjoy the beautiful Texas weather.
University Hills Parks
The University Hills Parks include Rochelle, Old Rochelle, Flag Pole Hill, Rosita, and Wingren parks. These parks are dotted around the oldest neighborhood in Las Colinas, the University Hills neighborhood. Rochelle and Old Rochelle parks are some of the most scenic parks and great for bird watching. Egrets, ducks, and geese can be found lounging around at any time of day but are most active in the mornings. The parks have paved trails that make running, biking, or taking a stroll convenient and pleasurable.
Flag Pole Hill is true to its name containing several flags but also has a hidden gem many may not know about. Flag Pole hill has five unique sculptures made by different artists. The sculptures are named Autumn, Origin, Twist of Fate, Catching a Wave, and New Beginnings. Each one is distinctive and waiting to be admired.
Campion Trail
Walking through Campion Trail North feels like you are in a remarkable forest. The trail is 7 miles and has a 12-foot-wide paved path which leaves plenty of room for everyone to bike, run, walk, or rollerblade. This park is home to several birds as well and even has covered picnic pavilions to stop and enjoy the scenery. E.O Perry Flower Clock
The E.O Perry Flower Clock is one of the most well-known and heavily photographed places in Las Colinas. While it is not a “park”, it is a scenic showpiece I would be remiss for not mentioning. The clock is fringed by 12 mature live oak trees and the clock itself has approximately 900 dwarf hollies and 4,000 units of color which are rotated quarterly. The clock is located at the corner of O’Connor and Eastbound Highway 114.
Founder’s Park
Founder’s Park honors the visionary founder of Las Colinas, Ben H. Carpenter. There is a larger-than-life sculpture of him which was created by artist Robert Glen, the man who sculpted the Mustangs of Las Colinas. The park also has grandiose marble statues of cattle. These statues were donated by the Trammell Crow Company in 1999. Founder’s Park is located on the westbound side of Highway 114 at Riverside Drive.
