The Dickens Home

2023 Las Colinas Home Tour Featured Home

Adjacent to Flag Pole Hill Park, the highest point in Las Colinas, sits this remarkably well-preserved home from the late 1970s.  The use of natural materials, such as wood and stone, adds a sense of texture and depth, while the incorporation of bold colors and geometric shapes injects a playful sense of personality and individuality. The architect, Mario Molina, and the original homeowner, Irving businessman Ernest Owens and his wife Joyce, worked closely together to create a design that would last generations. Molina’s son, Michael, now SMU’s Chief Architect and Assistant Vice President for Development, worked as a draftsman on the home as a young boy.  ”Walking into this home is like truly stepping into a time capsule, where the past and present tell a complete story.”  Andrew Meckfessel, AIA
