Virtual City of Irving Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration

January 17 @ 6:00 pm

Description

Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, “Love is the only force capable of turning an enemy into a friend.” His overall message of unity is the theme in the Parks and Recreation Department’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Observance on Jan. 17.

The city’s annual observance is virtual this year and residents can watch from home or on the go. The show will air at 6 p.m. Jan. 17 on cable television, online and on Facebook. The hour-long show will feature a performance from Dallas Black Dance Theater: Encore! Additionally, Irving artists Mercedes Lewis and Sanah Brown will show their artwork and discuss the importance King placed the arts.

Local students will have the opportunity to participate in the program. Essay contest winners will read their essays in each category ― grades 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12.

City of Irving officials and staff from different departments also will participate in this year’s video.
